More hits per website
For all of you bloggers or online entrepreneurs, you must know: Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This is the process of improving the visibility of a website so it’s accessible to a wide range of people online.
We all know that business is moving online, and with it, so are many job opportunities.
Whether you are selling something from your website, looking for advertisers or looking for people to read your blog, no one will find your website if you haven’t used SEO techniques.
Matthew Colvin is a businessman who uses SEO techniques to help consumers identify websites online. Colvin, and many other SEO specialists, use Google as their primary search engine to promote their business. Colvin asks all website entrepreneurs:
“Does your website appear on the first page of search results? Does it come up for all possible search terms that people may be using when they are looking for what you have to offer? SEO techniques get you on the first page of Google, because after all, how many people check the second, third and fourth page of Google when they search something.”
Google is the leading search engine in the world. SEO specialists try to understand how Google ranks and orders websites when a keyword is searched. Google uses an extremely complex algorithm to determine how they “rank” websites. Although no one but Google engineers know the algorithm, there are methods that SEO specialists use that have been proven to work.
Jonathan Panderiada, an online business owner and SEO specialist, explains the Google rank system:
“Google uses weighted link popularity as a primary part of its ranking system. The rank is based on the number of other web pages linking to yours and the importance of those other pages. I think Google does this because it ensures there is something of value on your page. For example, if you would check how many websites link to Wikipedia, you would probably find a number in the millions, therefore Google knows that there is something of value on the Wikipedia site.”
An important SEO technique anyone can perform is identifying and optimizing keywords on your website. There are services offered by Google such as “Google Trends” and “Google Insights” that can help you find how often a keyword is searched.
If you wrote a fashion blog and you identified “Canadian fashion” as one keyword, there are a number of things you can do to ensure Google knows your website is indeed about Canadian fashion.
If you currently own a website and are looking to monetize it, SEO is what you are looking for. If you feel you do not have the capabilities to perform SEO techniques on your website, there are thousands of companies you can look for online who will help you optimize your website for a fee.
With this important bit of knowledge, it’s time to go online and start making money.
